PROs:
✅ Cozy tavern sim
✅ Straightforward progression
✅ In-game cheats available
✅ Very simple and accessible gameplay
CONs:
❌ Unlocking items gets boring and grindy
❌ Fun factor drops off later on due to simplicity
❌ Some research unlocks are too deep in the tree, making them feel pointless
❌ Late-game scaling is silly; you can’t build beautiful taverns because you have to maximize table counts
❌ Some assets look rather low-effort
❌ Employee management is cumbersome (needs better UI)
❌ Rebuilding is a hassle
Comments:
It’s a cozy little tavern management game. Out of the 20 hours I played, I genuinely enjoyed about 15 of them. After that, it became a bit too repetitive. I basically unlocked all achievements and played only the first map; I didn’t see a reason to play the others as I’d already had my fill.
The main issues are the repetitiveness and an eventual lack of options. It’s also missing quite a few QoL features, making certain actions time-consuming and unpleasant. One major annoyance is the inability to mass-assign employee duties or floors. You have to tick boxes one by one. By the time you have four floors, a basement, and an outside section, you have to untick EVERYONE individually because the game auto-assigns them to new floors once you unlock them.
Also, if you want to rebuild your whole tavern, it’s a massive investment since destroying walls doesn’t refund any money. At least placeables can be stored, but workers have to be tossed into a corner while you rebuild—you can’t “store” them.
The game does offer an in-game cheat menu that doesn’t disable achievements, so I used that whenever I felt like rebuilding. At the later stages, it doesn’t really matter since you have enough gold, but in the early game, expanding and rebuilding is rough because you earn too little.
Another thing is that in these types of games, I usually want to build something beautiful (or at least attempt to). However, the way progression works here makes that impossible. You are forced to hunt maximum money-making methods, which means cramming in as many tables as possible. The same goes for the hotel; I thought about making the rooms nice, but I ended up making the entire floor as cramped as possible, to maximize beds amount whilst keeping star level maxed.
My favorite moment was hosting the King and Queen. The King was sitting alone inside, while the Queen was having a blast with the guards in the outdoor section of the tavern.
Anyhow, for a few bucks, it’s worth it if you enjoy this genre. It’s a simple game you can enjoy for 10-50 hours depending on your playstyle, whether you replay maps or mess around in sandbox mode.
