Comments:
This is a stylish hack-and-slash action game with an attractive protagonist and many, MANY outfits. In a sense, it feels like a mix of *Dark Souls*, *Devil May Cry*, and *NieR: Automata*, borrowing vibes from each: the boss combat from *Souls*, the world and story themes from *NieR*, and the flashy combat from *DMC*.
The story itself isn’t particularly complex and is fairly predictable due to common genre tropes, but it’s not bad and remains enjoyable.
Beyond the core gameplay, the game offers plenty of upgrades to make your character stronger, along with a few build variations depending on your equipment. However, the most rewarding loot often comes from finding and crafting new outfits to perfect your character’s look.
On the downside, New Game+ feels rather lackluster. While you can upgrade your core stats, expand a few skills, and find higher-tiered versions of the same equipment, the only truly worthwhile reward is more outfits (which requires three full playthroughs to unlock them all). The enemies, bosses, and general content remain unchanged.
Exploration-wise, the world is fun to traverse, with plenty of secrets and hard-to-reach spots. The biggest con, however, is that its Unreal Engine foundation isn’t stylized much, making the open-world maps look a bit boring and samey. The rewarding camera angles when opening chests are a definite plus, though.
The boss battles were a ton of fun, with my personal favorites being the Democrawler, Raven, and the Elder Naytiba.
The soundtrack has some great tracks, but also a few that miss the mark. The genres felt all over the place, which made the overall audio experience feel a bit odd. On that note, I played the game with both the English and Japanese dubs. The Japanese voice acting was great—very expressive and emotional. In contrast, the English dub often felt emotionless, and the protagonist’s combat sounds were incredibly obnoxious.
Overall, this is a very enjoyable action game with some notable issues. The attractive protagonist with a massive wardrobe was the cherry on top. Hopefully, with the first game’s success, a sequel will be more polished and expanded, featuring a more impressive and unique world design.
